First Time Hunting: My first time hunting was October 2011. I feel so lucky to have participated in the “Learn to Hunt Deer for Food” program through the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The discussions I had with my mentor, Mr. Mike Watt, our lead instructor, Karl Malcolm, as well as other participants and instructors in the program, were very rewarding. I have a much better understanding of why people hunt and how hunting contributes to conservation. With much help and kindness, I harvested an eight-point buck! I’ll never forget this experience and look forward to growing as a new huntress.
Why I wanted to Hunt: My interest in hunting came partly from the desire to harvest wild game as a sustainable, organic, food source and partly to better understand a huge public lands stakeholder group. For me, hunting provides an opportunity to better connect with both people and the outdoors!

Why I wanted to Hunt: I wanted to try something new. The learn to hunt program gave me a experience for a lifetime. They taught me proper gun etiquette, how to properly aim, and proper hunting etiquette. I would like to personally thank Trevin and Jared for allowing us to hunt with experienced hunters and for being such great teachers.
