Why You Hunt: Hunting to me is one of the most important things in my life. The relationships I have built through hunting can’t be matched by many activities. I started out hunting with my father, and it has become our favorite thing to do together and the subject of most of our conversation. I have also become much closer with lots of friends through hunting. Although hunting is definitely a social activity, it is also my favorite way to escape the chaos of the city and spend a little bit of time alone with my thoughts. I also really enjoy the fresh, organic meat that hunting provides for me. Through trial and error I have learned many valuable culinary skills by preparing wild game. There is a huge feeling of pride when you can take something full-circle, from scouting to actually hunting to harvesting an animal to the preparation of the animal into food. Overall, it isn’t about whether or not I bag an animal; It is about the tremendous joy I get from being in the wilderness with friends, family, or by myself and taking some time to enjoy nature. It’s an addicting experience, and I couldn’t imagine my life without hunting.
